Liverpool 2-0 FC Porto
Liverpool reached their second semi final in four days with a dominant performance against Porto.
The Reds took control from the first whistle and never had to deal with too much from the Portuguese outfit. Steve Gerrard was the first player to come close to scoring with a tremendous 40 yard volley that was arrowing its way into the top corner until a fine save kept the ball out. It was soon after the half hour mark when Liverpool went ahead, and Danny Murphy was the scorer after after an accurate pass by Gerrard, although a recovering defender should have cleared the shot. Straight away Porto came forward and Westerweld was forced into making a good block in his area.
But the score was made to look a lot more comfortable on 38 minutes when Owen headed down yet another excellent cross by Gerrard and the ball bounced hard into the ground and up into the top corner.
Liverpool eased off a little in the second half, but still gave little away at the back and Porto were almost totally restricted to long range shots.
Barcelona, Kaiserslautern and CD Alaves are also in the last four. The semi final draw will take place tomorrow and news will be posted on the site within minutes of the draw being made.
