Porto 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool secured a good result in Porto with a hard earned draw, after being forced to defend for long spells in the second half.
Owen and Fowler both had good chances in the first half, with Owen getting past the defence but having to stretch to get his shot in, which was dealt with by the Porto 'keeper. Fowler also was given an opportunity to put Liverpool ahead, although the ball fell on his right side and his shot was off target. Westerweld was only tested once in the half, but stood his ground when faced with a shot from Chainho.
In the second half, Porto began to come forward more and half way through, Pena was put clean through on Westerweld but he made a mess of the finishing shot, firing well wide despite no defenders near. Gerrard had a long range shot well saved and at the other end, a long range effort by Deco almost hit the post as it curled just wide with Westerweld left helpless.
A draw was a fair result in the end, but without the away goal, Liverpool will almost certainly need to win the return leg at Anfield which Litmanen should be back for.
