BRADFORD 0-2 LIVERPOOL

Liverpool moved closer to Champions League qualification with a win against the same side who dramatically prevented them from finishing in the top 3 on the last day of last season!

The first half saw a lively end to end game which surprisingly ended goal-less. Babbel had a header for Liverpool after 2 minutes, Carbone went close for Bradford soon after and Gerrard came close, but saw his effort cleared off the line midway through the half.

But it was Owen who looked most likely to put Liverpool ahead as his tore apart Bradford's defence with his pace, but despite getting into a few good positions, he again failed to convert a chance.

Owen was again the difference between the sides in the early stages of the second half and it took just a minute after the restart for him to put Liverpool ahead. The ball was played past the defence and Owen ran onto it to give Liverpool the lead.

Shortly after that, he could have doubled the lead when he was again one on one with the goalkeeper, but Gary Walsh made an excellent save.

Bradford's first real chance came on the hour mark when Westerweld handled from a Henchoz backpass and Bradford had a free kick from 6 yards out. Carbone claimed the responsibility, but could do nothing with it as an entire team of green shirts charged at him as he took the shot.

The win looked to be secured on 63 minutes when, after Liverpool were awarded a free kick, Gary McAllister stepped up. The man who had already netted important goals from set pieces in the last 4 games chipped the ball into the net to give Liverpool a comfortable lead.

The win moves Liverpool up to 3rd place in the league with 62 points and having played the same amount of games as Leeds who are on the same points total. Both teams still have a game in hand over Ipswich, who are also on 62 points. Arsenal are
