Birmingham City 1-1 Liverpool (aet Penalties 4-5)
Liverpool won a dramatic cup final on penalties after a tense draw in Cardiff.
Liverpool went ahead on the half hour mark thanks to a brilliant 20 yard effort from Robbie Fowler that flew past the Birmingham keeper. Vladimir Smicer had another good chance soon after but hit shot hit the wrong side of the net. But Birmingham never gave up, and despite Liverpool's posession and chances, the game never looked over. And Birmingham confirmed that the game was not over after winning a penalty deep into injury time which, after being converted by Darren Purse, forced the game into extra time.
Hamann hit the post in extra time, but the game eventually had to be settled on penalties.
