13.08.2005 - Middlesbrough 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool began the new Premiership season with a goalless draw, despite a dominant performance at the Riverside.
After a first half of few chances, the best falling to Steven Gerrard who fired over from close range, Liverpool upped the tempo in the second period, and could have won the game by a comfortable margin.
Gerrard was the man on the end of almost all of Liverpool's goalscoring opportunities, narrowly missing on three occasions from long range, while seeing efforts closer to goal kept out by Schwarzer.
Boro's task was made more difficult when Ugo Ehiogu was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Gerrard, just as the Liverpool skipper was set to break into the area with only the keeper to beat.
But despite the numerical advantage, Liverpool were unable to find the goal which would have given them only a third win in ten Premiership trips to Boro.
