04.08.2005 - Carra, Gerrard, Dudek, Hyypia shortlisted for UEFA awards
Four of Liverpool's Champions League heroes were last night named among the shortlisted players competing for UEFA's awards for performances in European competition last season.
Jerzy Dudek is up against Petr Cech and Gianluigi Buffon in the Best Goalkeeper category.
In the Best Defender category, Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia will compete with Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Cafu and John Terry for the award, while Steve Gerrard, UEFA's man of the match in Istanbul, must beat off competition from Michael Ballack, Kaka, Juninho, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo if he's to claim the award for the best midfielder of last season.
The winners will all be announced following the group stage draw at the UEFA Gala in Monaco at the end of the month.
