29.06.2005 - Gerrard talks set to begin

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard's contract talks will begin today, as he aims to sort out his future before Liverpool's season gets underway in two weeks time.

Gerrard currently has two years remaining on his current deal, which he signed in November 2003, shortly after gaining the club captaincy.

And a new £100,000-a-week contract is set to be offered to the skipper, to keep him on Merseyside until 2009.

No complications are expected, with Rick Parry last week claiming that he was 'hopeful' of keeping the man who lifted the European Cup last month, and Gerrard himself saying that it would be difficult to leave Anfield.

Liverpool play their first competitive match of the season on July 13th, and both parties will be aiming to reach resolve the matter by then.
