04.06.2005 - Smicer, Baros help Czechs to big win
Vladimir Smicer and Milan Baros both scored in the Czech Republic's 8-1 win over Andorra this afternoon, to keep their country on course for a place at next summer's World Cup.
The Czechs led after just 13 minutes, with Vratislav Lokvenc giving them an early lead, with Jan Koller doubling the lead before the half hour.
Chelsea's Petr Cech was beaten at the other end shortly after, before Smicer restored his side's two goal lead.
The midfielder, who was recently released from Liverpool, was playing his first game at international level since recovering from long term injury, though lasted only until half time.
The home team's dominance continued after half time with Galasek and Rosicky both netting from the penalty spot, and Milan Baros grabbing a goal in between.
It was Baros' first goal since the Czech Republic last faced Andorra, but despite a goal drought at club level which stretches back to early March, Baros has now scored in his last three World Cup qualifying games.
Jan Polak and Lokvenc added a goal each to complete the scoring and send the Czechs to the top of their qualifying group.
