05.03.2005 - Carson set for Debut
Scott Carson will make his debut for Liverpool at Newcastle later today, with Jerzy Dudek failing to recover from the injury he picked up in last week's Carling Cup final.
Carson was a £750,000 signing from Leeds during the January transfer window, and has yet to play a competitive match for the Reds.
But he was withdrawn from the reserve team which faced Man United reserves during the week, in case he was needed for today's game at St James Park, and with Dudek having not fully recovered from the gashed shin he suffered in Cardiff, Carson will take his place in the Reds' goal for the first time.
Liverpool will also be without Morientes, Hamann and Traore, while Neil Mellor was this week ruled out for the season after having to undergo knee surgery.
Liverpool: Carson, Carragher, Finnan, Hyypia, Pellegrino, Biscan, Gerrard, Luis Garcia, Riise, Smicer, Baros. Subs: Dudek, Welsh, Warnock, Le Tallec, Nunez.
