Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Frank Lampard is a better player than Steven Gerrard, as the build up to tomorrow's massive Premiership clash heats up.

Mourinho has previously spoken of his disappointment at missing out on signing Gerrard during the summer, but despite being a keen admirer of the Reds' skipper, Mourinho believes that his own number 8 is the better of the two England stars.

"I think Gerrard is one of the best midfielders in The Premiership, but I don't think he's better than Frank Lampard," said Mourinho, speaking during his pre-match press conference.

Despite opting to remain on Merseyside amid speculation that he was set to complete a move to Chelsea in the summer, Gerrard has been continued to be linked with a move to Chelsea, but has recently reiterated his desire to be successful with Liverpool.
