10.08.2004 - Reds target Alonso as Murphy completes Charlton move
Liverpool have moved to sign Xabi Alonso from Real Sociedad, after Danny Murphy finalised a £2.7million move to Charlton Athletic.
A statement released by Sociedad confirmed that representatives of Liverpool are in talks to sign Alonso, and a bid of £10.7million has reportedly been made, which is currently under consideration.
Alonso has spent three years at Sociedad, during which time he has made almost 100 league appearances, and he has featured regularly in the Spanish national side since making his debut last year.
There'll be no more appearances in a Liverpool shirt for Danny Murphy though, who was just one short of reaching 250 Liverpool games, after he completed a move to Charlton this morning.
Charlton acted quickly to sign Murphy after his talks with Spurs broke down yesterday. Murphy has been handed the number 13 shirt, which he has famously worn at Liverpool for the last four years.
