07.08.2004 - Loan trio make league debuts
Three of the Liverpool players who will be spending the season away from Anfield made a first competitive start for their new clubs today, as the French Ligue 1 and Scottish Premier League both got underway.
Gregory Vignal played the full 90 minutes in Rangers' 0-0 draw at Aberdeen, and Alou Diarra played most of Lens' first match of the season away to Toulouse, which also ended goalless.
Also in action for his new club was Bruno Cheyrou, who was introduced on 72 minutes of Marseille's home win against Bordeaux.
Despite having little time to make an impression on the game, Cheyrou was on the pitch long enough to find himself being cautioned for a foul only ten minutes after being brought on. The game was won thanks to a fine 94th minute strike by Laurent Batlles.
However, Anthony Le Tallec will have to wait for his first taste of action with St Etienne.
Le Tallec has been at the club for less than a week and missed the 1-0 defeat to Monaco in St Etienne's first top flight match since being relegated from Ligue 1 in 2001.
