22.07.2004 - Sami not for sale, insist Reds
Liverpool have moved quickly to play down reports that Sami Hyypia was set to move to Barcelona.
The Spanish giants are currently looking to improve their defence, and club president Joan Laporta had earlier confirmed that Sami Hyypia was among the players who Barca were interested in.
But a Liverpool spokesman said: "Sami Hyypia is just not for sale, it is as simple as that. And we have had no contact with Barcelona."
Hyypia is the second Liverpool player who has attracted interest from last season's La Liga runners-up, after Baros was linked with a move to the Nou Camp.
But Barca's interest in the Reds' striker was short lived, after Laporta insisted that the club were unwilling to pay Liverpool's £10million valuation of Baros.
