28.06.2004 - Relief for Reds as Stevie stays
Steven Gerrard has announced that he will be staying at Liverpool next season, ending speculation that he was on the verge of a record breaking move to Chelsea.
A press conference was called to announce the news, though despite insisting that he is 100% commited to the club, Gerrard did reveal that he had considered the possibility of a transfer away from Merseyside due to the lack of progress at Anfield over the past two years.
Gerrard said: "I haven't been really happy with the progression of the club over the last two years, as I've made it aware to the media. And for the first time in my career, I've really thought about the possibility of moving on to a different club."
"But, after coming home from Euro 2000, sitting down with my family, also asking Rick for a 4th meeting in 2 months, spending all my time with my agent and my close family, my dad & my girlfriend, I've decided that I'm staying on at Liverpool Football Club, that I'm 100% committed to the football club."
"I will admit that them things were the possibility of moving on, but I've gone with the decision that's been in my heart and that decision's to stay at Liverpool Football Club. I love the club, I love the supporters and that's what it boils down to at the end of the day."
