23.06.2004 - Baros nets as Germany crash out
Milan Baros scored his third goal of the tournament to help his side to a victory which sent Dietmar Hamann's Germany crashing out of Euro 2004.
Having already won the group, the Czech manager fielded a side containing 9 changes from the starting line up which faced Holland, and the decision looked like backfiring when Germany took a first half lead through Michael Ballack's stunning volley from 20 yards.
But Marek Heinz scored his second goal of the competition with a brilliant free kick which curled into the top corner of Kahn's goal before the break.
The German's, needing a win to guarantee a place in the quarter finals, regardless of the result of the other group D game, came out fighting in the second half and put the Czech's under constant pressure for much of the second period, but in playing so many men forward, they always looked vulnerable to a Czech counter attack, and Milan Baros took advantage of that by racing clear to give his country a lead late in the game.
Baros is joint second in the goalscorers chart, 1 goal behind Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who have each scored 4 times.
The Czech Republic will face Denmark on Sunday in the last of the quarter final matches.
