15.08.2001 - ENGLAND 0-2 HOLLAND
England lost against Holland at White Hart Lane this evening. Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler started the game, with Owen and Barmby coming onto the field later in the game. Sander Westerweld missed the game through injury and is now struggling to be fit for Liverpool's home game against West Ham. Emile Heskey and Steve Gerrard had already been withdrawn from the England squad through injury. Marc van Bommel and Ruud van Nistelrooy were the scorers for Holland as they won 2-0 over Sven Goran Eriksson's men, the first defeat for England since he took charge. There was better news for some of Liverpool's other International stars though. Finland thrashed Belgium 4-1, with Litmanen playing a part in the first two goals before scoring the third himself with a penalty. Rumoured Liverpool target Hannu Tihinen grabbed the final goal. Dietmar Hamann's Germany won 5-2 away to Hungary, while the Czech Republic won 5-0 at home to next year's World Cup co-hosts, South Korea.
