01.10.2003 - Murphy out for a month
Danny Murphy will join the growing list of injured players at Liverpool after suffering a torn ankle ligament in Monday's mini derby.
A late challenge by Kevin Campbell caused the injury and, after scans yesterday revealed the extent of the damage, it was confirmed that the Reds midfielder will miss at least a months worth of games.
Chris Kirkland and Dietmar Hamann should be back in training by the time Murphy returns, but until then, Gerard Houllier will be working without a number of his key players, with Milan Baros and Jamie Carragher both out of action until next year.
In addition to those out due to injury, Salif Diao is set to face a three match ban due to recieving a straight red card for violent conduct after lashing out at Franny Jeffers during the second half.
There was better news for Stephane Henchoz though, with the Reds' centre back completing the 90 minutes, although he was almost forced to follow Murphy off the pitch when he was on the wrong end of a bad challenge by Everton's Nick Chadwick.
Liverpool won the game 1-0 thanks to a Florent Sinama-Pongolle penalty just short of the hour mark, which gave the Reds' second team their first home win of the season.
