15.09.2003 - Lucas Neill - I'm not sorry

Lucas Neill has today refused to apologise for the horror challenge which broke Jamie Carragher's leg on Saturday.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Neill said that he 'can't be sorry' for the reckless tackle which will keep the Liverpool full back out for at least 6 months.

Neill said: "I had no intention to get myself sent off in the game. All I can say is that I'm sorry for him that he's broken his leg.

"But I can't really be sorry for the tackle. I felt it was committed and I just went in tough."

"Unfortunately it was just a game when everyone was committed, and what's happened has happened," added the Australian.

Gerard Houllier has labelled Neill as a 'coward', and is furious that neither he nor Blackburn manager Graeme Souness have issued an apology.
