07.09.2003 - Kewell on target in Aussie win
Harry Kewell netted for Australia today, in his country's friendly against Jamaica which was played at Reading's Madejski Stadium.
Kewell produced a world class performance in the 2-1 victory and could have had more than one goal, which he scored to win the game for the Socceroos.
The Liverpool man was heavily involved in the first Australia goal, playing a one-two with Marco Bresciano before shooting himself. Kewell's shot was saved but Bresciano put the rebound into the net.
Jamaica equalised two minutes later through Kevin Lisbie, but Harry Kewell's goal scored with the outside of his left foot just short of the hour mark proved to be the winner.
A fine save by Donovan Ricketts from a 30 yard strike by Kewell had prevented Liverpool's highest profile summer signing from recording a first half goal, and he also saw a shot hit the bar just before the interval.
It was only Kewell's 14th cap for Australia, who was forced out of last month's friendly against Ireland through injury, but on today's form, Australia's head coach Frank Farina will be hoping that his star player will be earning many more caps in the future, with Australia's qualifying campaign for the 2006 World Cup due to begin next year.
