01.09.2003 - Murphy in reserves side for City game

Danny Murphy will line up for Liverpool's second team tonight, as the reserves play their first home game of the season against Man City.

Murphy has not started in any of the previous two senior games and was quite ineffective during his late spell as a sub at Goodison on Saturday.

But the 2002-3 Liverpool Player of the Year will get his chance in his home town to push for a first team place for the Reds' next match which is away to Blackburn a week on Saturday.

Carl Medjani is also included in the starting line up tonight for his first game in a Liverpool shirt after he recieved international clearance at the weekend, while fellow Frenchman Bruno Cheyrou is also set to start the match.

Patrice Luzi will play in goal, replacing Paul Harrison who, despite a fine performance, was unable to prevent the Reds' reserve team losing 1-0 at Newcastle last week.

Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle have both been rested to allow the duo to prepare for their Under-21 international on Friday.

Man City will take a very inexperienced side to the Deva Stadium, with no well known players in the City line up.

Liverpool: Patrice Luzi, Jon Otsemobor, Zak Whitbread, Carl Medjani, Djimi Traore, Danny Murphy, Robbie Foy, John Welsh, Stephen Gillespie, Bruno Cheyrou, Mark Smyth.

Man City: Kevin Ellegaard, Danny Warrender, Paul Collins, Glen Whelan, Mikkel Bischoff, Stephen Jordan, Willo Flood, Christian Negouai, Karl Bermingham, Jamie Tandy, Craig Smith.

The game is due to kick off at 7pm.
