08.07.2003 - Kewell close to completing Anfield move
Harry Kewell is on the verge of signing for Liverpool after deciding to quit Leeds United this summer, a year before his contract expires with the Elland Road club.
Kewell has been linked with clubs such as Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea but is set to turn down at least two better offers in order to join the club who he supported as a boy.
The deal was initially said to be completed this morning, but a last minute problem, which is believed to be regarding the amount of money which Kewell is owed by Leeds, caused a delay in the completion of the deal.
The player is still very likely to become a Liverpool player in the next couple of days though, with Gerard Houllier hoping to see the transfer completed before Liverpool fly out to Switzerland where the Reds will continue their preparations for next season.
Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Anthony Le Tallec and new first team coach Christian Damiano have already arrived at Melwood this week and should Kewell also be part of the squad which travels to Switzerland, he will become the second signing since the end of last season, following Steve Finnan's move to Merseyside.
