04.06.2003 - Four Liverpool stars in England action
Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Jamie Carragher all added to their number of England caps last night, during England's 2-1 win over Serbia & Montenegro, with all three players wearing the captain's armband at some stage during the game!
Owen led the side out in David Beckham's absence, and the Reds' striker was involved in the first England goal which was started and finished by the outstanding Steven Gerrard, the only Liverpool player not to captain the team at some stage of the game.
Emile Heskey enjoyed a brief spell in the second half as England captain, with the game being held at Leicester City, where Heskey spent a number of years after progressing through the youth system there before his big money transfer to Liverpool.
Once Heskey was withdrawn, Phil Neville was handed the armband, but after Neville was replaced, Jamie Carragher was given the honour of captaining his country for the final 6 minutes of the game.
Joe Cole scored England's winner with a free kick after 82 minutes.
