Didi Hamann has failed to recover from his shin injury and is out of the Liverpool team to face Chelsea. The German is set to have surgey on the injury which has caused him a number of problems during the season, but was hoping to be fit enough to take his place in the line up. But after losing the race to be fit in time, Hamann will see Salif Diao replace him as Liverpool bid to record a fourth place Premiership finish.

Emile Heskey remains on the bench as Baros and Owen continue up front, and there a surprise place on the bench for Patrick Berger, in his final game at Liverpool, with Berger set to leave the club over the summer.

Gianfranco Zola, whose future at Chelsea is still in doubt, also starts the game from the bench.
