02.05.2003 - Liverpool v Man City: Preview
Liverpool go into tomorrow's Premiership clash with Man City aiming for a fifth straight league win at Anfield.
With Newcastle and Chelsea both facing tough games, a Liverpool win could see the Reds up into fourth, or even third place in the Premiership table with one further match to play.
Following the 6-0 win at West Brom last week, Gerard Houllier will be hoping that the likes of Michael Owen and Milan Baros can repeat such great form in front of goal again tomorrow, and if Liverpool's strikers are given similar service as that which they enjoyed at the Hawthorns last weekend, Man City's defenders will be in for another tough game, having conceded five goals against both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks.
Liverpool have won twice against City already this season, with a 3-0 away win in the league, and also a 1-0 win in the last even FA Cup match to be played at Maine Road. The Reds have never lost to Man City in any previous Premiership meeting between the sides though, and will start as hot favourites to record a victory tomorrow and keep that record intact.
John Arne Riise, Dietmar Hamann and Vladimir Smicer are slight doubts, though both Riise and Hamann are expected to recover in time for Liverpool's final home match of the season.
Man City will arrive at Anfield with a forward line of Nicolas Anelka and Robbie Fowler, with Fowler returning to Anfield as a player for the first time since his transfer away from the club 18 months ago. Anelka also makes his first return since Gerard Houllier opted against signing him on a permanent basis at the end of last season, although the Frenchman has featured in both of Man City's defeats to Liverpool already this season.
News of the game will be added tomorrow evening, along with scores from all of tomorrow's crucial Premiership matches.
