30.04.2003 - Baros nets 10th Czech goal in Turkey stuffing
Milan Baros' International goal tally moved into double figures tonight, as the Czech Republic thrashed Turkey 4-0 follwing a fantastic first half display.
The Czech's were 4-0 up by half time, with the first of the goals arriveing after little over a minute of play, courtesy of Jan Koller. Milan Baros was unlucky not to add a second after only 6 minutes of the game when he forced an excellent save out of Recber Rustu.
The Turkish 'keeper was beaten again after only 20 minutes though and before the break, Vladimir Smicer had a goal for himself, thanks to an assist by Baros who unselfishly allowed his Liverpool team-mate to finish the move, and Baros himself got his name on the scoresheet before the half time interval, arriving at the far post to fire in from close range after a great ball from Tomas Rosicky.
Both Baros and Smicer tested Turkey's reserve 'keeper in the second half though neither were able to add to the scoreline and Baros was later given a standing ovation when he was substituted late in the game.
The Czech Republic currently lead their Euro 2004 qualifying group and both Smicer and Baros are likely to feature heavily in their remaining qualifying games, as the Czechs aim to qualify for their first major tournament since Euro 96, when they finished as runners-up to Germany.
