29.03.2003 - International round-up
A number of Liverpool players were this evening representing their countries in Euro 2004 qualifiers.
Four Liverpool players took part in England's 2-0 win away to Leichtenstein, with Michael Owen heading in the opening goal after a cross from the right by fellow Red, Emile Heskey.
Steven Gerrard also played the full game, with Danny Murphy winning his eighth cap when he replaced Beckham midway through the second half.
Vladimir Smicer played over an hour of the Czech Republic's 1-1 draw in Holland, with Liverpool's other Czech player, Milan Baros, setting up the equalising goal just seconds after coming on as a sub.
Elsewhere, Jerzy Dudek kept a clean sheet in Poland's 0-0 draw against Hungary and there was also disappointment for Dietmar Hamann, with Germany forced to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Lithuania, with Hamann close to winning the match in the 89th minute.
However, Sami Hyypia was the only Liverpool player to be on a losing side, after two first half goals for Christian Vieri were enough to earn Italy a 2-0 win over Finland.
Another round of games will take place next Wednesday.
