14.02.2003 - Smicer 'out for 2 to 3 weeks'

Vladimir Smicer faces an anxious race against time to be fit for next month's Worthington Cup final, after injuring his ankle in the Czech Republic's 2-0 win over France in midweek.

Smicer was taken off early in the match and according to Phil Thompson, could be out of action for up to 3 weeks.

The Czech will definitely miss the two UEFA Cup matches against Auxerre, along with the upcoming Premiership clash against Birmingham.

Milan Baros also came off injured during the match, when he landed awkwardly on his back after challenging for a header. Baros came on as a sub and scored the second Czech goal but despite his early exit, he is exoected to be fit for Liverpool's next match, which is in a week's time.
