16.10.2002 - Gerrard injured in England draw

Steven Gerrard was stretchered off in the second half of England's 2-2 draw with Macedonia this evening which could rule him out of this weekend's trip to Leeds.

Gerrard fell to the ground in obvious pain after stretching to win the ball, and after lengthly treatment by the England physio, he was carried off the pitch.

It was a disappointing end to Gerrard's evening, after he had struck a superb volley from outside the area to give England their second equaliser of the night, after Macedonia had twice taken the lead in the game at Southampton's St Marys Stadium.

David Beckham was England's first goalscorer.
