12.10.2002 - Mixed fortunes for Liverpool stars

Jerzy Dudek's bad run of results whilst with Poland continued tonight, as his country went down to a 1-0 home defeat against Latvia. The only goal of the game was scored by Juris Laizans whose long range effort looped over Dudek, who was stood a long way off his goalline.

Since making his Liverpool debut last September, Dudek has not featured in a winning team in seven appearances for his country, which included back to back defeats in Poland's first two World Cup Finals matches against South Korea and Portugal.

There was a better result in Romania for another Liverpool player though, as Norway picked up a valuable 3 points in Bucharest. John Arne Riise played the full match and it was from his well delivered corner that Stefen Iversen scored the game's only goal.

The Czech Republic also won, but managed the victory over Moldova without any Liverpool players in their line-up. Vladimir Smicer is still recovering from injury, Patrick Berger has struggled to gain first team football woth the Reds, and Milan Baros was suspended for the game.

It was the first time since October 11 2000 that a Czech Republic line up has not featured a Liverpool player at some stage during the match.
