02.09.2002 - Five Reds' stars recieve England call up
Four Liverpool players have been called up to the full England squad for Saturday's friendly with Portugal, while Chris Kirkland is back in the Under-21 squad after missing this summer's European Under-21 Championships through injury.
Emile Heskey and Michael Owen, who were both heavily involved in the World Cup Finals, are part of the 20 man squad, while Steven Gerrard is recalled after being forced out of the World Cup squad through injury. Danny Murphy is also included, after a terrific start to the season by the Reds midfielder.
There was disappointment for three ex-Reds. Jamie Redknapp and Nick Barmby, both England regulars before their long term injuries, have been left out of the squad, despite good starts with their new clubs. Stephen Wright, who is now too old for the Under-21 team, has also been left out despite also performing well for his new club.
Abel Xavier was left out of Portugal's squad for the match, which takes place at Villa Park this Saturday.
