19.07.2002 - Friendly result: Le Havre 0-1 Liverpool
Liverpool began their preparations for the new season with a 1-0 win over newly promoted French First Division side, Le Havre.
Many first team players were leafye out of the starting line up, some even left out of the full matchday squad, with Houllier selecting mainly those used as squad players, and also including a few new faces.
Alou Diarra started the game and Milan Baros also started a Reds senior game for the first time, while Cheyrou was introduced at half time and Diouf came on after an hours play.
The only goal of the game was scored by Baros on 26 minutes with a good shot after being set up by Gerrard, but despite the game's many chances, the keepers rarely found themselves tested, and a free kick by Murphy was the closest Liverpool came to adding to their lead.
Antony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who join Liverpool next season, both played the game.
