30.06.2002 - Brazil claim fifth World Cup
Brazil are the winners of the 2002 World Cup, after beating Germany 2-0 in the final thanks to goals from Ronaldo.
After a first half which was dominated by the Germans, Brazil took the lead in the early stages of the second half, after Oliver Kahn spilled a shot straight into the path of Ronaldo in the six yard box, and the tournament leading scorer made no mistake.
Ronaldo doubled his tally with just less than a quarter of an hour to play, following a neat build up after Dietmar Hamann had been dispossesed.
It is Brazil's second World Cup win in the last three tournaments, and their fifth overall. However, thanks to the a FIFA ruling, Brazil will not automatically qualify for the next World Cup, despite being the holders. Only Germany, as the hosts, are given automatic qualification into the 2006 competition.
