05.06.2002 - Hamann impresses but Germany held by Ireland

Dietmar Hamann put in another good display as he played his second full match of the World Cup, but saw his country miss out on an early second round qualification by just one minute.

A German win would have guaranteed a top two place in the group, and a place in the second round of the world cup. But despite leading for 73 minutes, Germany had to settle for a draw after Robbie Keane's 92nd minute equaliser.

Germany still top their group though, and while a win against Cameroon will be good enough to put them though, it is extremely likely that the Germans will need just a draw from that game.
