07.12.2001 - Baros refused work permit

Milan Baros was dealt a blow yesterday as he had his application for a work permit turned down, and must therefore face an anxious wait before he can officially sign for the Reds. Baros is rated as one of the hottest prospects in European football, and Liverpool are hopeful that he will be granted a work permit after an appeal. The criteria which Baros failed in was that he had not played 75% of the Czech Republic's interntaional matches over tha last 2 years, but Liverpool's argument will be that he has played all 6 games for the Czech's since making his debut, and the fact that he is so young would make it unrealistiv for him to have played in so many games at such a young age. If successful on their appeal, Liverpool could tie up the signing by mid January.
