West Ham 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool somehow rescued a point from a game which looked certain to end in a home win.
West Ham had much of the possesion in the first half and could have scored more than just the one goal in the half, but Nicolas Anelka was guilty of missing a couple of good chances to get Liverpool on the scoresheet. The West Ham goal came with six first half minutes remaining and it was Trevor Sinclair with the strike.
Steve Gerrard was brought on at half time, but West Ham still continued to dominate the match. Trevor Sinclair twice came close to extending the Hammers' lead as Dudek was kept busy in the Liverpool goal.
Michael Owen was finally introduced to the action on 59 minutes, but even he failed to get himself too involved as Liverpool looked certain to be heading to another deserved loss with West Ham on top for most of the game.
Patrick Berger had a long range effort saved by David James and at the other end, Jerzy Dudek was again required to keep Liverpool in the game with an important save from a long range Michael Carrick shot which was heading into the back of the net.
Emile Heskey came close with a header, but it hit the wrong side of the netting.
Phil Thompson then made a change to bring on Litmanen for Smicer, which meant that all four strikers were on the pitch at the same time.
But still West Ham had the better of the chances and yet another top class save by Dudek kept the score at 1-0 when Trevor Sinclair looked certain to increase the scoreline.
And just as it looked as though the four strikers of Liverpool would fail to score past West Ham, Michael Owen scored from an Emile Heskey pass across goal.
It was more than Liverpool deserved, but with Leeds, Arsenal and Chelsea all winning, it was still two points dropped and Liverpool are down to fourth in the league, though could fall a further place if Man United win against Fulham tomorrow.
