Roma 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool secured a valuable point in Rome in a game which was a largely scrappy affair which, as with some of Liverpool's successful away trips last season, failed to produce a goal.
Liverpool had an opportunity after 14 minutes, with Smicer having a shot well blocked by Antoniolli in the Roma goal, but it was a rare chance at the Roma end, with the home side looking very much as though they intended to win the game.
Batistuta had a clear chance for Roma around 10 minutes later, but fired a shot wide of goal when clean through.
Emile Heskey found himself with Liverpool's only other major chance in the first half, after some confusion in the Roma defence, but he shot wide.
Following that, Roma had almost all of the goal chances, but were mainly restricted to long range efforts, with Hyypia and Henchoz yet again proving that even the best attackers in the world will have a job trying to get past them. Emerson, Totti and Assuncao each missed the target from chances put their way, and in the closing moments of the game, Jerzy Dudek rescued Liverpool with a couple of good stops
But Dudek kept a third clean sheet in a row since the Barcelona game as Liverpool prevented Roma from scoring on their own ground for the second time in 9 months, and despite not actually winning the game, it was a great result for the Reds. Even though other results mean that Liverpool stay bottom of the group, there is still everything to play for in the final 4 games and it looks possible that any pair of clubs could escape from this group and compete in the quarter finals.
