Boavista 1-1 Liverpool

Danny Murphy scored for the second successive European game, as Liverpool kept their lead of the group and the Reds now need just one point.

Minutes after a disallowed goal by Gary McAllister for offside, Liverpool found themselves with a free kick just outside the area. With Riise and Murphy both stood over the ball, there was only going to be one man to take it and Murphy's strike was perfect, only just clearing the heads of the Boavista defenders in the wall, but with enough swerve to decieve the keeper and put Liverpool ahead.

The home side started to attack Liverpool more, but never quite managed the quality of play which they had produced at Anfield. Though one thing which was exactly the same as the first match between the sides was the extreme amount of diving and play acting by the Portuguese with players falling to the ground after little or occasionally no contact at all. The  referee kept a close eye on the main culprits though, but while Boavista gained little advantage for their troubles, their was no punishment given out for what was blatant cheating thoughout.

They managed to get back to their football before half time however, and created a superb chance for Duda, who headed against the bar with Jerzy Dudek beaten.

In the second half, Boavista looked more a little more dangerous and looked to get forward more. With Liverpool unable to extend on their lead, their always looked like a way back into the game for Boavista and eventually the goal came. A corner from the right was heade in by the Brazillian striker, Silva.

Despite a guaranteed place in the second round up for grabs for the winner of this game, noone could get the all important winner and both sides must wait until the final matchday next week to try and book their place in round two.
