LIVERPOOL 3-1 TOTTENHAM
Liverpool went ahead early thanks to Emile Heskey goal after 7 minutes. The big striker ran on to a through ball and slotted past Neil Sullivan. Liverpool looked to be by far the better side and weren't threatened by Tottenham until the midway point of the first half.
A shot by Berger that was heading wide, found the head of Owen who thought he'd put Liverpool 2-0 up. But the goal was disallowed for offside, and Tottenham went straight on the attack themselves with Leonhardsen, and the former Liverpool man played the ball to Korsten who equalised from 12 yards out.
Goalscorer Heskey was taken off injured before the half was over, and Fowler made an earlier appearance than expected. But despite Owen and Fowler being on the pitch together, it was Gerrard who came closest to scoring again with a long rage effort that Sullivan had to tip onto the bar. Fowler later put a free kick just beyond the top corner of the goalposts after Sullivan had handled outside the area.
In the second half, Liverpool made a couple of early substitutions with Smicer and Carragher being replaced by Hamann and Vignal. The half started much slower than the first and there were fewer chances. But one chance fell to Owen after 71 minutes, and he saw his shot hit the hand of a Spurs defender and the referee pointed to the spot. It was Liverpool's third penalty appeal of the afternoon with the previous two turned down, and it gave the hero of the moment, Gary McAllister, the chance to score the winner for the third time in a week!
McAllister was as cool as always and put Liverpool back ahead and the win was sealed in the last couple of minutes by Fowler, heading the third past Sullivan from a terrific cross by Babbel.
The win sees Liverpool move back ahead of Chelsea into 5th place and The Reds still have enough games in hand to catch Ipswich in 3rd place.
