IPSWICH TOWN 1-1 LIVERPOOL

Liverpool failed to win away from Anfield in the league yet again, but still managed to pick up a point against another team competing for 3rd place.

Despite a goalless first half, the game was far from dull and both clubs could have had a half time lead. Marcus Stewart came closest for Ipswich, but just failed to get a touch onto a good cross played into the area by Titus Bramble.

Then, less than a minute later, Ziege fired a shot wide of the target for Liverpool, from around 16 yards out and under little pressure. The German International was starting his second game in a row, despite a minor disagreement with the manager last week.

Liverpool started the second half with seemingly more of an intent on winning the game, with Heskey netting just 15 seconds into the second half after powering his way through to goal to score his 20th of the season.

But it was a rare attack for The Reds in the second period as Ipswich came back into the game and finally grabbed a deserved equaliser through Alun Armstrong with 13 minutes to go.

The result keeps Liverpool in 5th place with 2 games in hand over their rivals. Ipswich move up to 3rd, three points ahead of Liverpool and level on points with 4th placed Leeds, who visit Anfield on Friday.
